Art
Children make art and write at the easel and tables, using a variety of modeling, drawing, and painting materials to create exploratory, tactile, process-based art. Children can display their work on bulletin boards or branches mounted in the classroom.

Building and Constructive Play
Children explore the properties of physical science through constructive play. Children gain invaluable skills in spatial awareness, executive functioning, and problem solving through block play.
-
Book Nook
Children explore books about STEAM-related topics independently or with support from teachers in this cozy area. Titles can be swapped in and out throughout the year.
-
Central Gathering Space
A place on the carpet with a variety of seating cushions invites students and their teachers to gather for read-alouds, group conversations, and shared activities.
-
Cozy Corner
This space provides an opportunity for students to take a break in a calm and cozy nook. Materials to support self-regulation are provided and should remain in this area.
-
Light and Shadow
Children explore the way light interacts with a variety of materials at this station by using the light table and its variety of attachments and loose parts.
-
Nature Corner
Children observe, sort, and experiment with a variety of natural objects and interact with live plants and animals. You may wish to use some of these materials in other areas of the room for specific activities or explorations.
-
Things That Go
Children explore physical science through direct exploration of things that roll (using the ramp system), and things that float, hover and fly (using the wind tunnel).
-
Sensory Table
Children directly experience the physical properties of water and other sensory materials by digging, scooping, pouring, or using different tools and containers.
